September 7, 2001, Pasadena, CA - The University of Southern California School of Architecture dedicated the Flewelling & Moody Design Studio on September 7, in the Trojan League Courtyard, Harris Hall, at the downtown campus. It's the first dedication of its kind for The School of Architecture. The ceremony honored Flewelling & Moody founder, Ralph Carlin Flewelling, FAIA, his son, Ralph Hunter Flewelling, AIA, and the firm's continued commitment to USC.
The firm made a donation of $100,000 to the School of Architecture that will be disbursed over five years. The donation will be used by the School of Architecture to fund their capital facilities improvement.
"We wanted to recognize both our history with USC, as well as the importance of the USC School of Architecture in the professional community," explains USC alumnus, and Flewelling & Moody Principal Ara Zenobians. "As specialists in educational facilities, we felt this would be an appropriate way to contribute to the university."
The studio dedication is a culmination of the firm's long-standing relationship with USC. In 1929, firm founder, Ralph Carlin Flewelling began his first commission with USC by designing the Seeley W. Mudd Hall of Philosophy. In 1937, he went on to design both the Harris College of Architecture and Fine Arts, and the Fisher Gallery of Fine Arts.
Ralph Hunter Flewelling joined the firm in 1959, and continued to secure commissions with USC. Among Flewelling's projects are the 1984 Olympic swimming and diving pools, and the USC Hoover Street Entrance Mall and Fountain. | | |
